일반 유아 및 초등학생의 사회적 기술 증진을 위한 실험연구 분석 = A Review of Experimental Research on Social Skills Interventions of Young Children and Elementary School Students

The purpose of this study was to review the experimental research literature of social skills interventions of young children and elementary school students and to provide information and suggestions on social skills interventions for future research and practices. A systematic search of the literature from 1998 to 2018 revealed 25 experimental studies published in South Korea. This study analyzed the 25 selected studies in terms of 9 analytical variables(participants, research settings, experimental design, target skills, tools of measurement, types of intervention, strategies of intervention, effects of intervention, effects size). The findings of study were as follows: First, most participants of the studies conducted in preschool settings were five years old young children in general. Second, research settings of the experimental studies were educational institutions such as kindergartens and elementary schools. Third, the experimental design of the studies was the pre-post comparison(control) group design. Fourth, target skills were established not only for social skills but also for additional target skills. Fifth, most studies used SSRS as a measuring tool. Sixth, as the type of intervention, various programs were conducted for young children in preschool settings, and social skills training programs were used for all elementary school students. Seventh, most reviewed studies used linguistic techniques as strategies of intervention. Eighth, intervention programs of the studies have enhanced social skills of most participants. Ninth, effect size was mostly large for young children, and in the case of elementary school students, there were various effect sizes(small to large effects). The implications of the findings and recommendations for practice and future research on social skills interventions were presented.
