아버지의 수용과 청소년의 심리적 발달 - 연구 동향 분석: 아버지의 수용과 청소년의 심리적 발달 = Review of Paternal Acceptance and Adolescent Psychological Development

국문 초록 (Abstract)

  지난 20여년 동안 아버지에 대한 연구는 크게 증가하였고 아버지가 자녀에게 중요한 영향을 미친다는데 합의가 이루어졌다. 이 연구에서는 아버지 역할의 문화적 소산과 이 결과로 아동발달과 가족 연구에서 아버지에 대한 연구가 과거에 등한시된 점을 분석하고, 아동과 청소년의 지적, 정의적, 사회적 발달에 미치는 아버지의 영향을 어머니와 대비한 6가지 영역의 경험적 연구 결과에 입각하여 분석하였다. 이 6가지 영역은 아버지의 수용만을 취급한 연구, 아버지의 수용을 어머니와 같은 정도로 중시한 연구, 아버지가 어머니보다 영향력이 크다는 연구, 아버지의 수용이 유일한 영향을 미친다는 연구, 아버지의 수용이 어머니의 영향을 매개한다는 연구, 부모가 자녀에게 달리 영향을 끼친다는 연구 등이다. 이와 같은 연구 결과에 의하면, 자녀의 발달에 대한 아버지의 수용의 영향은 어머니와 비슷하거나 때로는 능가하는 것으로 나타났다. 어머니의 영향을 통제하면, 아버지의 수용이 특정한 결과의 유일한 예언 변인으로 작용하는 경우도 있다. 전반적으로 볼 때, 아버지의 수용은 자녀의 심리적 건강과 복지뿐만 아니라 약물남용, 우울, 행동장애, 비행과 같은 행동 문제에서 어머니만큼이나 중요한 것으로 논의되었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

  In the past two decades, there has been an explosion of research on fathers. This paper explores the cultural construction of fatherhood as well as the consequences of this construction as a motivator for understudying fathers for a century in developmental and family research. And it reviews evidence from 6 categories of empirical studies showing the powerful influence of fathers" acceptance on adolescents" cognitive, emotional, and social development. Much of this evidence suggests that the influence of father on offspring"s development is as great as and occasionally greater than the influence of mother. Sometimes, only father"s acceptance is statistically associated with specific outcomes of offsprings" development, after controlling for the influence of mothers" acceptance. Generally, paternal acceptance appears to be as heavily implicated as maternal acceptance in adolescent psychological health, well-being, and behavioral problems.
