국립고궁박물관 소장 의궤 도식 목판

국문 초록 (Abstract)

궁중 연향과 관련된 의궤는 행사가 끝난 이후 활자로 만들어 여러 부수를 찍어 간행하였다. 이때 행사의 주요장면, 소요 물품, 잔치 때 행해지던 춤 등을 간략한 그림으로 기록한 의궤(儀軌) 도식(圖式)은 목판에 새겨 찍었다. 현재 남아있는 19종의 연향 관련 의궤 중 도식이 그려져 있는 것은 14종이며 각각의 행사에 따라 다양한 도식들이 수록되었다. 현재까지 알려진 의궤 도식 목판은 원주 고판화박물관에 1점, 국립청주박물관에 3점이 남아 있는 것으로 확인되고 있으며 이 목판들은 조선 왕실의 판각 기술이나 인쇄술 등 왕실 판화와 의궤 연구에 있어 아주 귀중한 자료라고 할 수 있다.
이 글에서는 현재 알려진 의궤 목판 외에 국립고궁박물관 소장 의궤도식목판(4점)을 새롭게 소재하였다. 이 도식 목판들은 판심과 손잡이가 있는 목판의 형태가 아니라 도식 부분만 따로 분리된 형태로 남아 었다. 앞ㆍ뒷면에 모두 6개의 도식을 살펴볼 수 있으며 정재도의 학무(鶴舞), 연화대무(蓮花臺舞), 아박(牙拍), 춘앵전(春鶯囀)이, 채화의 이층수파련(二層水波蓮), 사권화(絲圈花)가 새겨져 있다. 그러나 연대를 알 수 있는 판심이 결실되어 있어 정확한 제작 연대를 파악하기에는 어려움이 있어 현재 전하고 있는 다른 의궤도식 판본과의 비교 고찰을 통해 국립고궁박물관소장도식 목판의 제작시기를 파악해보았다.
이를 통해 6재의 도식 중에 4재의 도식[학무(鶴舞), 연화대무(蓮花臺舞), 아박(牙拍), 이층수파련(二層水波蓮)]은 1877년에 거행된 신정왕후(神貞王后) 칠순(七旬) 경축연(慶祝宴)을 기록한 『정해진찬의궤(丁亥進饌儀軌』, 또는 1887년에 거행된 신정왕후(神貞王后) 팔순(八旬) 경축연(慶祝宴)을 기록한 『정해친찬의궤(丁亥進饌儀軌)』에 수록된 도식과 동일한 것임을 확인하였다. 사권화(絲圈花)는 1848년 『헌종무신진찬의궤(憲宗戊申進饌儀軌)』에 그려진 2개의 사권화 중 왼쪽도식과 동일하였다. 그러나 춘앵전 도식은 현재 확인할 수 있는 활자본 의궤에는 찾아볼 수 없었다.
연향 의궤는 당시의 모습을 재현할 수 있을 만큼 모든 절차와 소요물품 등을 상세하게 기록하고 있어 궁중 연향의 전모를 연구하는데 큰 도움이 되고 있다. 특히 의궤에 삽입되어 있는 도식은 당시에 행해진 궁중무용이나 행사용품 등 당시 궁중문화 연구와 왕실 인쇄문화의 이해에 귀중한 자료가 되고 있다. 그러나 왕실판화의 대표작인 의궤를 간행하는데 사용했던 도식 목판이 많이 현존하고 있지 않아 아쉬움을 주고 있다. 이번에 소개한 국립고궁박물관 소장 도식 목판이 새로운 자료로 활용되기를 희망하여 앞으로도 또 다른 의궤 도식 목판이 발굴되기를 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

An uigwe would be compiled and published immediately after each official palace banquet after King Jeongjo period. An uigwe is a collection of texts and a variety of illustrations and schemas. Images of important moments of events, implements needed, and dances performed at the banquet were carved into woodblocks and printed. Today, nineteen types of palace banquet uigwe remain. Of these, fourteen contain schemas. Various schemas are illustrated depending on the nature of each event. Four woodblocks for schemas contained in uigwe are still extant: one in the collection of Woodblock Prints Museum in Wonju, and three in the collection of Cheongju National Museum. These woodblocks are extremely valuable for the study of royal print and uigwe as they provide details of the wood engraving techniques and printing technology of the Joseon Dynasty.
This paper introduces four woodblocks for schemas of uigwe in the collection of the National Palace Museum that were newly discovered in addition to the above mentioned woodblocks for uigwe. Noteworthy is that the schema part of these woodblocks remains as a separate form. It is not in the form of a woodblock with pansim(center folded outer edge) and handles. On the face and back of the woodblocks are engraved six schemas: illustrations of the four court dances of hakmu(crane dance), yeonhwadaemu(lotus blossom dance), abak(ivory clappers dance), and chunaengjeon(dance of the spring nightingale), and two colored illustrations of artificial flowers of icheungsuparyeon and sagwonhwa. However, the pansim, which show the dates of production of these woodblocks, are lost, rendering any effort to determine the exact year of production of the woodblocks very difficult. This paper ascertained the years of production of the schema woodblocks in the collection of National Palace Museum of Korea through comparison with woodblock printed illustrations of other extant uigwe.
It was confirmed that out of the six schemas, four(hakmu, yeonhwadaemu, abak, and icheungsuparyeon) are exactly the same schemas used for Jeongchuk jinchan uigwe, which recorded the ceremony to celebrate the seventieth birthday of Queen Sinjeong in 1877, or Jeonghae jinchan uigwe, which recorded the ceremony to celebrate the eightieth birthday of Queen Sinjeong in 1887. Of the remaining two schemas, the one for sagwonhwa matches the schema on the left of the two sagwonhwa schemas contained in the Heonjong musin jinchan uigwe, which recorded the banquet thrown by King Heonjong to celebrate the sixtieth birthday of the queen dowager in 1848. However, I could not find a schema in chunaengjeon identical to any in other uigwe available.
Palace banquet uigwe recorded the whole process and list the goods and implements needed in such detail that the event at the time can be faithfully reproduced today in its entirety, which makes uigwe extremely useful in research on palace banquets. The schemas in uigwe are especially valuable for studying the court dances and implements used for the event and understanding the print culture of the Joseon royal family. Sadly, only a few woodblocks for schemas to print uigwe remain today. I hope that the woodblocks for schemas in the collection of the National Palace Museum of Korea introduced in this paper will be used for the study of court print culture, and I expect that more schema woodblocks will be discovered in the future.
