아동의 유우머 발달에 관한 심리학적 연구 = A Psychological Study on Children's Humor Development

Humor is one of the important ways of communication in our everyday life. Since appreciating a humor is a comprehensive process including such aspects as cognitive, emotional and physical, it can be utilized as an essential instrument to understand children's behavior.
The purpose of the present study is to analyze interactions among personal factors such as sex and age, contents of humor and social situations.
To achieve the purpose of this study, humor stimuli including 12 pairs of drawings accompanied by an explanatory story were constructed. The 13 pairs of drawings were presented to 310, 2nd, 4th, and 6th grade children individually. The subjects were divided into two social situation groups. Group 1 was social facilitation group where the experimenter showed to the children such behaviors as smiling, eye-contact, and friendliness, whereas Group 2 was non-facilitation group where the experimenter did not show any intimate behavior. Three way analysis of variance and Pearson's correlation coefficients were computed. The results and conclusions of this study are as follows.
1) There were significant grade differences in rating scores of humor appreciation and level of humor responsiveness. That is, lower grade children showed higher appreciation scores and response levels than children in higher grade.
2) The situation of presenting humor stimuli significantly affected children's humor response levels. That is, children under socially facilitating situation showed higher level of responsiveness than the counterparts under non-faciliating situation.
3) Negative correlations were found between some of the variables measuered by
"Home Environment Diagnostic Rating Scale" and humor ratings. That is, the degree of parents's permissive attitude towards their children and the degree of intimacy among family members revealed to have a negative relationship with children's humor appreciation scores and levels of responsiveness to humor stimuli.
The above-mentioned findings were interpreted and discussed in terms of theoretical backgrounds and other research findings. Some suggestions were presented for further study.
