논문 : 기독교 신앙과 근대적 주체의 문제 -정지용과 김현승의 시를 중심으로- = Christianity and Modern Subject in the Poems of Jeong Ji-yong and Kim Hyeon-seung

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article reviews the matter of Christianity and modern subject focusing on the poems of Jeong Ji-yong and Kim Hyeon-seung. This article deals with Jeong Ji-yong and Kim Hyeon-seung because their works show problematic aspects of Christian literature. Jeong Ji-yong`s ``Religious poems`` show very well how modern subjects who consider themselves as the ground for perceiving the world, have accommodated the religious ideology. It was impossible to Jeong Ji-yong who expressed things in his own senses, to accept the absolute idea without accompanying internal discrepancy. World of divine nature that cannot be perceived from physical things, strong desire to feel the world and denial of physical things to invoke the desire, dualistic perception on the religion and the reality, all these features show the characteristic of Jeong Ji-yong`s modern self-consciousness which has taken the sensing subject as the ground for perception. The point where his thinking which can integrates things and ideas, accepts the religious ideas superficially without being accompanied by sensual perception, reaches to general problems of Jeong Ji-yong`s poems such as ``lack of fierce agony regarding the reality and self-speculation``. Ironically, this clearly shows that Jeong Ji-yong`s poems have characteristics of modern subjects and at the same time it suggests the status and limitations of modern perception on religious ideology. Kim Hyeon-seung thinks Christian religion as the place where he searches for the place of human beings. He internalizes and formalizes Christian speculation not in the way of assimilating himself to the object of worship but of revealing the human points distinguished from the absolute being. His poems show the process of fighting by religious mind, being separated from the religious ideas and at last reaching to the lonely subject through self-speculation. A fierce metaphysical fighting in Kim Hyeon-seung`s poems has become very important assets in Korean Christian literature. The process of perceiving Christianity and agony in Jeong Ji-yong`s and Kim Hyeonseung`s poems has important meaning in that it has shown the trajectory how the modern subject was established in the history of Korean poetry and it has become the foundation to achieve active self-expansion and deepening of Christian literature henceforth.
