초등학교 체육특기적성교육 참여가 체육수업 및 생활체육 인식에 미치는 영향 = The Influence of Physical Education for Speciality and Aptitude of Elementary School upon Recognition Degree of Physical Education Class and Life-time Sports

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of specialty and aptitude program on recognizing the importance of physical education class as well as life-time sports. Elementary school students were recruited in the study, and the results of the study are expected to add more knowledge on specialty and aptitude training. A multiple method research technique was used in this study. By implementing both quantitative and qualitative methodology, the researcher collected data by administering questionnaires and conducting interviews. A multi-stage stratified cluster random sampling technique was used in this study. The researcher selected eight elementary schools in Seoul, Korea, and the subjects were fourth to sixth grade students in those schools. Eight hundred questionnaires were distributed, and 752 of them were used in this study. Using the SPSS program, frequency test, T test, and one-way analysis of variance were conducted. In addition, the researcher conducted interviews with eight students from two different schools. Interview data were tape recorded, and the researcher took field notes. The following are conclusions of this study.
It was found that parents who frequently participate in physical activities put more importance on specialty and aptitude program. In addition, students who are currently in the program in element, level had positive attitudes towards continuing the program when they advance to middle school and high school. Most students were satisfied with the program Physical fitness, socialization, enjoyment, and leisure participation were perceived benefits among the students. This study found that students who are in the specialty and aptitude program recognized the importance of the physical education class including its objective, contents, method, and evaluation. It was implied that participating in the program would allow more opportunities to participate in physical activities than those who are not in the program. As a result, students with increased opportunities will be more interested in physical activities that in turn will enhance their physical fitness. This study found that students who are in the specialty and aptitude program recognized the importance of the life-time sports including physical development, psychological stability, socialization, and leisure participation. In addition, those who are currently in the program had more preference towards the program. They were also interested in participating in various sport activities that they have not played before. Some students were interested in pursuing career in professional sports, and the majority of students indicated their intention for ongoing participation.
In conclusion, specialty and aptitude program in elementary school has positive influence on physical education classes, and people could achieve better quality of life through continuing to participate in sports. It is important to develop more specialty and aptitude programs in different levels, and more researchers on finding what students are really interested in is also needed.
