<치병활인금척>과 <머슴의 꿈> 설화유형의한일 비교(2) -<머슴의 꿈> 설화를 중심으로- = Comparison between Korean and Japanese folktales, Chibyeong Hwalin Keumcheok and Farmhand's Dream II - Focused on Farmhand's Dream

This research, as a follow-up study, compares two kinds of folktales, Chibyeong Hwalin Keumcheok and Farmhand's Dream, created based on the similar motif of a measuring rod healing incurable disease and bringing a dead person back to life, and the same types in Japan, investigates factors in common and regional differences between them, and based on the results, analyzes the relationships between two types and its relation with ‘Keumcheok (a golden measuring rod) folktales’. The previous study has analyzed the Korean and Japanese types of Chibyeong Hwalin Keumcheok, and this research investigates Farmhand's dream.
The Korean and Japanese types of Farmhand's Dream can be summarized that the main character working as a farmhand boasts that he has had a big dream but has not accepted the noble’s request on disclosing its content, so he has come to be punished. However, as obtaining magic objects controlling life and death during the punishment, he comes to save lives of two noble women’s. Accordingly, he finally gets married to those women and lives in wealth and honor, which menas he ultimately realizes his dream. In this way, its contents are mostly common, but some part of its composition or factors, and the dream content of the main characters appear differently. When it comes to the subject, both types describe desires to achieve ideal life which is hard for ordinary males, the main transmitters, to realize in the reality, but they want to experience through dreams. In other words, what they dream of as ideal life is entering the upper class with extraordinary abilities, marry women from noblesse, and ultimately live in splendor by satisfying physiological needs and making stable family. In addition, they also try to acquire attitudes in life through the experience of ideal life by depending on belief on the dreams, which shows two different senses of each nation, wisdom of life with aspiration and plenty of courage in Korean’s and wisdom of overcoming hardships through change in attitudes in Japanese’s.
Accordingly, Farmhand's Dream and Chibyeong Hwalin Keumcheok are two different folktales, based on placing the focus on the realization of dreams in Farmhand's Dream and sharing magic objects for Chibyeong Hwalin in Chibyeong Hwalin Keumcheok, but shown differently in part. The western-type of this folktale, based on the realization of the dream, consists of a motif addressing dilemma not emphasizing magic objects for Chibyeong Hwalin, which is changed into ‘a measuring rod curing disease and bringing a dead person back to life’ and adds ‘Myeongeui (renowned doctor) folktale’ in the Korean’s. Subsequently, this part makes the final episode whose content is about saving lives of Korean Princess and daughters of the son of God, as the measuring rod and eventually realizing advancement in life. The two types of folktales concentrated on this research has been discussed as ‘Keumcheok folktale’ by causing confusion in the transmission system since ‘a golden measuring rod’, ‘dream’ and ‘curing disease and bringing a dead person back to life’ are all involved just like Keumcheok myths of Park, Hyeokgeose (progenitor of Silla) ․ Lee, Seong-gye (founder and the first king of the Joseon Dynasty) and they are in the influential relationships in part, but the results of this study eventually makes their relations accurate.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 불치병을 치료하고 죽은 사람도 살리는 자(尺)의 모티프를 공유하는 <치병활인금척>과 <머슴의 꿈> 설화에 대한 연구이다. 일본의 동일 유형과 비교하여 공통점과 지역적인 상이점을 도출하고, 그 결과를 바탕으로 ‘금척설화’와의 관계도 해명해보려는 연구의 후속 작업이다. 이 논문에 앞서 <치병활인금척>의 한일 유형을 분석하였고, 이번에는<머슴의 꿈>에 대하여 다루었다.
<머슴의 꿈>은 남의 집에서 머슴살이를 하는 주인공이 대몽을 꿨다며 자랑만하고 그 내용을 알고자 하는 상류층의 요구를 받아들이지 않아 처벌을 받는 중에 생사를 관장하는 주보를 획득하여 고귀한 여성 둘의 생명을 살려 그 여성들과 결혼하여 부귀영화를 누림으로써 꿈을 실현하였다는 내용이다. 이처럼 설화의 내용에서 대부분 한일 모두 공통되며 일부구성이나 요소, 그리고 주인공이 꾼 꿈의 내용 등에는 차이를 보인다. 주제에 있어서는 두 나라 모두 주된 전승자인 서민 남성들이 현실에서는 이루기 어려운 이상적인 삶을 꿈을 통해 경험해 보려는 마음을 담았는데, 그들이 원하는 이상적인 삶이란 비범한 능력을 갖추어상류계층에 진입하고 고귀한 신분의 건강한 여성과 결혼하여 생리적 만족과 함께 안정된가정을 꾸려 부귀영화를 누리는 것이다. 또한 꿈에 대한 신앙에 의지하여 이상적 삶을 체험함으로써 삶의 자세를 터득하려고 하였는데, 한국의 설화에서는 포부와 두둑한 배짱을 가지는 삶의 지혜를, 일본은 기지에 의한 고난극복의 지혜를 가져야된다는 의식이 나타난다.
이처럼 <머슴의 꿈>은 꿈 실현을 주안으로 한 꿈 설화이며, 전설적인 성격을 띤 <치병활인금척>의 주보설화와는 치병활인주보를 공유하지만 별개의 유형이다. 이 설화의 서구형에서는 ‘꿈 실현’을 골자로 하면서 치병활인주보의 모티프 대신에 난제해결의 모티프가 구성되는데 그것이 한국의 설화에서는 ‘치병활인의 자’로 전환되어 있고 거기에 ‘명의설화’도 수용하여 자로 공주와 천자의 딸 생명을 살려 영달하는 후반부의 에피소드로 하고 있는 것이다.
본 연구에서 다룬 두 설화유형은 박혁거세 ․ 이성계금척신화와 함께 ‘금척’ ‘꿈’ ‘치병활인’ 등이 서로 얽혀 있고 얼마간의 수수관계를 가져서 전승 계통에 혼란을 야기하여 ‘금척설화’ 로 논의되었는데 이번 분석을 통해 그들의 관계는 분명해졌다.
