항쟁기억의 의례적 재현 －‘5월행사’와 전야제를 중심으로－ = The Ritual Representation of Uprising Memory Focused on the May events and the Eve Festival in Kwangju

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The ritual is one of important fields, in which historical event would be represented. In this paper, I tried to analyze the mode of cultural representation of ‘the memory of 1980’s uprising’ in the May events and the eve festival in Kwangju. The May events could be analyzed in terms of ritual regime, managed by a more comprehensive control system. The main principles of ritual regime are harmonization and balancing between the representation of past and the problematization of contemporary issues in the grassroots and nationalistic movement. The basic data are the reports of May events, the text of eve festival, and documentary films and so on.
There were some strain and conflicts between the formal execution camp and the more radical group, but it became to converged, because the more radical cultural group could be joined to the conceptional team in the 5‧18 foundation since 2001.
The mode of representation would be classified by more symbolic, dramatic mode and more traditional and exorcism like mode in the eve festival. The Festival of 2000 is more dramatic than that in 2004. It moved gradually from dramatic mode to popular traditional mode, because of the change of conceptual group. We need to focus on the performity of the festival.
