Question on limit is a central problem in philosophy. The Gods and the absolute of ancient Greek and medieval philosophy(theology) as well as the heaven(天) of eastern philosophy are such examples. Since early 20th century, it has been accepted that human beings cannot think or speak about anything beyond limit(alterity) According to Wittgenstein, the history of western metaphysics have tried to speak about the area beyond limit, which actually cannot be thought or spoken, so they have suffered various diseases. Socrates and Derrida hold fast to a critical stance against human capability to think or speak about something beyond limit. By questioning that god is really wise and human wisdom is of little or of no value, Socrates criticized human arrogance(hybris), which attempt to control the region beyond limit by trying to speak about it. By saying that there is nothing outside text, Derrida also criticized metaphysicians`` attempt to construct something positive beyond limit, which supports the things within the limit. Although human beings always wish self-sufficient life maintained without any intervention of (absolute) alterity, human life cannot be free from alterity which is beyond limit. Human beings want to control alterity(beyond limit), or at least want their life to be supported by it. Nonetheless, human life is totally dependent upon alterity(beyond limit), and is never supported by alterity positively. Putting emphasis on recognizing one``s own ignorance, Socrates demanded to hear the voice of daimon, coming from beyond limit. Namely, he focused on recognizing that human life cannot be self-sufficient, free from daimon``s voice. Derrida, by thrusting examples, wanted to show that every system in the world is interlaced with absolute alterity beyond limit. Since the interlacing with absolute alterity is the precondition for constructing every system in the world, everything in the world is constructed as a trace of interlacing with absolute alterity(beyond limit). For this reason, everything in the world cannot be self-sufficient. Human beings want to escape from their problem of life through self-reflecting function of reason, but human reason is insufficient for speculating the problem of limit. Both Socrates and Derrida thought that human reasoning (self-reflection) is not capable of deconstructing self-identity. Socrates said that he had been always wandering and perplexed, lived in a state of aporia(in a state of recognizing his own ignorance), not because of himself but because of daimon. He also said that he could not refute himself, through his own will. He said he himself was refuted by daimon which is beyond limit, passively. Derrida, like Socrates, said that de-constructive reflection is not possible through self-reflection. Deconstruction should be inevitably parasitic, and dependent upon interlacing with absolute alterity. Because interlacing with alterity(beyond limit) is prerequisite for constructing one``s own self, deconstruction has to coincide with the construction of self. It means that deconstruction of self is beyond human will, eg., deconstruction of self through self-reflection of reason is out of question. In spite of time interval of 2,500 years, Socrates and Derrida have a common awareness of the problem of limit, and we can find it in Socrates`` thesis of the recognition of ignorance and Derrida``s strategy of de-constructive reflection.
