Biopharmaceuticals became prominent in the fields of industry, investment, and job market, showing high success rate in clinical trials, high development efficiency, and promising market values.
The benefits of antibody drugs include a wide range of accessible antigens, high target specificity, various mechanisms, the rate of success development as high as 15%, and the possibility for industrialization. The benefits are proven effective in market when antibody drugs dominated drug sales in 2019, taking up two thirds of the top 15 drugs. Initially antibody drugs were developed as a group of IgG variants, but more than 1,800 antibodies were in their research and development (R&D) phases by 2017 and within the next few years the R&D activities spawned a huge diversity of platform-based designs supported by multiple configurations and new scaffolds. Consequently, the expansion of platform technologies and the resulting number of druggable targets became a tough barrier to entry; still, next-generation antibody drug development continues to flourish.
Under the vision “Drugging the Undruggable,” Orum Therapeutics is focusing on developing next-generation antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). We have developed a novel ADC technology named antibody-neo Degrader conjugate (AnDC) that specifically induces the death of cancer cells by eliminating intracellular proteins essential for cancer cell growth. Cancer specificity is achieved by antibodies and the cell-killing effect is facilitated by an intrinsic proteolysis mechanism.
Our two leading AnDCs are entering into their preclinical stages as we confirm their significance in efficacy and safety via mouse and monkey studies. We are preparing for our next pipelines employing world-class proficiency in drug development geared to discovering and optimizing the key components of an AnDC, namely antibodies, linkers, and payloads. Orum Therapeutics’ AnDC platform is demonstrating the potential to lead future drug development, pioneering ADCs targeting the intracellular proteolysis mechanism.
