한국 근대 정치·외교사 연구의 성과와 전망 = Performances and Prospect of Researches on Korean Modern History of Politics and Diplomacy

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims to understand the historiographical meanings of relevant researches by organizing the research performances in the field of politics/diplomacy published in the 󰡔Journal of Korean Modern and Contemporary History󰡕 in each theme. In most of those research performances, the researches got intensified to concretely understand the process in which Japan plundered Korea, and they thoroughly organized various aspects of people who performed this through new data and perspective. Nevertheless, the limitations of the journal could be mentioned together with the prospect as follows. Even though the researcher is not sure if it is proper to mention the limitations, the researcher aims to briefly mention them as they could be actually helpful for the development of the journal and researches on modern history.
According to the statistics of the Korea Citation Index homepage of the National Research Foundation of Korea, the influence index of the 󰡔Journal of Korean Modern and Contemporary History󰡕 is 0.74, which is not very high.
As this external index could be an objective evaluation of the 󰡔Journal of Korean Modern and Contemporary History󰡕, it should not be simply ignored.
There should be additional efforts to overcome such low influence and low awareness.
Of course, in order to discover and foster rising researchers, the Journal of Korean Modern and Contemporary History has been operating the ‘Excellent Theses Award’ System since 2008. The journal’s role is to help more excellent researchers stand in the center of research by discovering, rewarding, and encouraging them.
Carefully suggesting the future prospect based on such limitations, first, it would be necessary to actively seek for and discover the agenda suitable for the present time, rather than passively publishing the journal by simply depending on individual researchers’ submission. Second, the basis of researches on history is to discover, criticize, and utilize historical records.
Due to the structural limitations of the journal, most of the researches are performed by individual researchers, which is working as a limitation that cannot expand the scale or period of researches. The economical and stable system needs to be equipped for pure researches on history. Therefore, the Journal of Korean Modern and Contemporary History would need to seek for the measures for vitalizing group researches by actively attracting small-scale research units and also investing a certain amount of support fund.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 ≪한국근현대사연구≫에 게재된 정치·외교 분야의 연구성과를 주제별로 묶어 정리함으로써 관련 연구의 사학사적 의미를 파악하고자 한 것이다.
대체로 이들 연구성과는 일본의 한국 침탈 과정을 구체적으로 이해할 수 있는배경의 성격으로 연구가 심화되었으며 이를 수행한 인물군상의 다양한 면면을새로운 자료와 관점을 통해 잘 정리했다고 평가할 수 있다. 그럼에도 학회지가갖고 있는 한계를 전망과 아울러 언급하자면 다음과 같다. 사실 필자가 한계를언급하는 것이 적절한 것인지는 잘 모르겠으나 학회지와 근대사 연구의 발전에도움이 되길 바라면서 간략하게 언급해 두고자 한다.
한국연구재단 한국학술지인용색인 누리집의 통계에 따르면 ≪한국근현대사연구≫의 영향력지수는 0.74로 높은 편은 아니다. 이러한 외부 지표는 곧 ≪한국근현대사연구≫에 대한 객관적 평가일 수 있기 때문에 쉽사리 간과해서는 안될 것 같다. 낮은 영향력과 낮은 인지도를 극복하기 위해서는 별도의 노력이필요해 보인다.
물론 신진연구자 발굴 및 육성을 위해 한국근현대사학회는 2008년부터 ‘우수논문상 시상’제도를 운영하고 있다. 더 많은 우수 연구자를 발굴해 포상하고이들을 격려해 연구의 중심에 서도록 도움을 주는 것이 학회의 역할이지 않을까 생각한다.
이러한 한계를 바탕으로 향후 전망을 조심스럽게 제언하자면, 첫째 개별 연구자의 투고에 의지하는 수동적 학술지 발행이 아닌 시대에 맞는 어젠다를 적극적으로 모색하고 발굴해야 할 것이다. 둘째, 역사 연구의 기본은 사료의 발굴과 비판 및 활용에 있다. 학회가 가지는 구조적 한계로 인해 연구의 대부분이개별 연구자에 의해 진행되는 측면이 많다. 이는 연구의 규모나 기간을 확대시키지 못하는 한계로 작용한다. 순수한 역사 연구를 위한 경제적 안정적 시스템을 갖출 필요가 있다. 따라서 한국근현대사학회는 소규모 연구단위를 적극 유치하고 일정한 지원금을 투여해 집단연구를 활성화시킬 방안을 모색할 필요가있다.
