太一神의 含意와 한국에서의 太一神 숭배 = The Significance of the Spirit of the Ultimate One and Its Worship in Korea

국문 초록 (Abstract)

三神사상은 우리민족의 고유사상으로 天地人을 주재하는 天一神, 地一神, 太一神으로 구성된다. 天一神은 만물을 창조하는 造化神이고 地一神은 만물을 기르는 教化神이며, 太一神은 만물을 완성하여 다스리는 治化神이다. 이중 治化神인 太 一神이 가장 존귀하고 위대한데 천지의 목적이 인간을 성숙시켜 완성하는 것이 목적이고 이 목적을 실현시키는 신이 太一神이기 때문이다. 우리민족의 고유신관인 三神 과 五帝神에 의거하여 三皇五帝의 관념이 형성되었다. 전국시대 때 우리의 三神사상 이 중국에 전파되었고 한무제때는 국가의 제사로써 자리를 잡아 전한 말기까지 지속 되었다. 후에 天皇・地皇・人皇의 三皇을 三神이라하고 중국에서는 三皇에서 三神說이 나왔다고 하였는데 이는 본말이 전도된 것이다. 또 太一神의 범주로 太一星(북극성)의 主神, 백성들의 고통과 고난을 구제해주는 太乙救苦天尊과 參同契에 사람이 신선이되면 하늘나라의 中洲로 불러 올린다는 太乙元君, 인체 내에서 사람의 생명을 주재 하는 가장 존귀한 존재로 太乙神등이 있다. 고려시대 때 太一醮祭는 1056년(문종10년)에 처음 나타난다. 그 후 우왕4년(1378 년)까지 총 20회의 태일초제를 지낸 기록이 󰡔고려사󰡕에 보인다. 고려 때 초제를 담당하는 道觀으로 開京에 福源宮, 神格殿, 太淸觀 등이 있었고 지방에는 艮方인 和寧, 巽方인 忠州, 坤方인 富平, 乾方인 龜州에 태일전을 세워 45년마다 옮겨가며 太一星 에 제사를 지냈다. 乾方에서 중궁으로 들어가며 중궁을 포함하면 225년에 한 주기 가 끝나게 된다. 조선시대에 들어와 星宿醮祭를 지냈던 고려시대의 福源宮, 神格殿, 太淸觀 등의 도관을 昭格殿으로 병합하고 세조 때 소격서라고 개칭하였다. 그 후 1518년 한차례 혁파 되었다가 1522년 바로 재건되었고 1592년 완전히 폐지되었다. 그리하여 조선시대 초기에 太一星에 대한 제사가 昭格殿에서 진행되어 󰡔조선왕조실록󰡕을 보면 태조 때 부터 세조4년(1458년)까지 24회의 제사를 지낸 기록이 나타난다. 조선시대에도 太 一의 45년 遷移說의 영향으로 건국초기에 艮方인 강원도 통천에 태일전을 지어 제사를 지낸 것을 시작으로 45년이 지나 1434년에는 巽方인 경상도 의성으로 옮겼고 다시 45년이 지나 1479년에는 坤方인 충청도 泰安으로 옮겨 태일초제를 지냈다. 태안에서 45년이 지난 1524년에 서북간방인 乾方으로 이전해야 했지만 이때 소격서가 혁파되었다가 재건되는 등 어수선한 시기여서 지방의 태일전초제는 坤方인 泰 安에서 끝을 맺고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The philosophy of Samsin or the Triune Spirit is the unique philosophy of Korean people. This system of thought consists of the spirit of the heavenly one, the spirit of the earthly one, and the spirit of the ultimate one, which respectively administer heaven, earth, and humanity. The spirit of the heavenly one is the spirit of creation that creates all things; the spirit of the earthly one is the spirit of edification that fosters all things;
the spirit of the ultimate one is the spirit of governance that completes and governs all things. Among these three spirits, the spirit of the ultimate one, which is the spirit of creation, is the noblest and greatest one, because it is the very spirit which realizes the purpose of heaven and earth, namely, perfecting human beings into maturity. In the period of Warring States, the Samsin teachings of Korea was first introduced to China, and later during the reign of Emperor Wu of Han dynasty, it was developed to be put into practice through imperial offering rituals. It continued till the last period of the Western Han Dynasty. The categories of the spirit of the ultimate one are as follows―the main deity of the Star of the Ultimate One (Polaris); Taeeul Gugo Cheonjon (Taeeul Heavenly Being That Delivers Humanity From Suffering); Taeeul Supreme Sovereign that, according to the Cantong qi (the Seal of the Unity of the Three), leads the immortals who had been mortal humans to the central abode in the heaven; Taeeul Spirit, one of the noblest being, that administers the process of life inside human body, and so forth. In the 10th year of the reign of King Munjong (1056 A.D.) of Goryeo Dynasty, the Taeil Choje (Heavenly Offering Ritual for the Ultimate One) first appeared in Korean history. Thereafter, the Goryeosa (the history of Goryeo Dynasty) recounts that there were 20 Taeil Chojes conducted in all till the 4th year of King Wu (1378 A.D.). During the Goryeo Dynasty, Doguans (Dao institutes) which presided over Taeil Choje, were established across the nation―Bokwon Palace, Shingyeok Shrine, Taecheong Temple in Gaegyeong (then capital city). Taeil Shrines were built in the provincial districts such as Hwa’nyeong in the gan direction, Choongju in the son direction, Bu’pyeong in the gon direction, Guiju in the geon direction, and each shrine conducted alternately the offering rituals for the star of the ultimate one (polaris) by the interval of 45 years. In the early period of Joseon Era, according to the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, the offering rituals for Taeilseong or the star of the ultimate one were performed in the Sogyeok Shrine for 24 times in all from the reign of King Taejo till the 4th year of the reign of King Sejo (1458 A.D.). Due to the influence of the 45-year relocation theory, Taeil Shrines of Joseon Dynasty were also established according to its unique principles; first, in the initial period of the dynasty, a Taeil Shrine was built in the Tongcheon of Gangwondo Province in the gan direction, and then 45 years later, in 1434 A.D., it was relocated to the Uiseong of Gyongsang Province, and then another 45years later, in 1479 A.D., it was relocated to Tae’an of Choongcheong Province to perform the offering rituals for heaven. It was Tae’an in the gon direction where the customs of performing offering rituals in the provincial districts came to an end.
