기업의 4차 산업혁명 기술 도입과 생산성 간 관계 연구: 절대적 수준과 상대적 위치 = A Study on the Relationship between the Application of the Technology related to 4th Industrial Revolution and Firm Productivity: Absolute Level and Relative Position

This study aims to empirically analyze the effect of the introduction of the technology related to 4th industrial revolution on total factor productivity in the firms in terms of absolute level and relative position of productivity. This study constructs the dataset from managerial and general information of the firms and business activity survey from 2016 to 2019 which had questions on the application of the 4th industrial revolution-related technology. The values of total factor productivity of the firms in 2016 were divided into quintiles for least-squares regression to analyze the relationship between the application of the 4th industrial revolution-related technology and total factor productivity enhancement. In addition, those in 2019 were also divided into quintiles to investigate whether the firms which applied the technology related to 4th industrial revolution is related to the productivity of the firms to be included in the specific quintile of total factor productivity. The results showed that the application of the technology related to the 4th industrial revolution has a positive effect on the improvement of the absolute productivity level for the firms with relatively low productivity before. On the other hand, with respect to the relative position of productivity, the application of the 4th industrial revolution-related technology reduces the probability of the firm falling into the bottom quintile of productivity and increases the probability of being included in the top quintile. This study is important in that the impact of the 4th industrial revolution on firm productivity was analyzed by dividing it into absolute and relative positions. This study draws an implication that it is necessary to make a managerial judgment on the application of technologies related to the 4th industrial revolution considering the characteristics of the firm and to take policy considerations related to the diffusion of the 4th industrial revolution in the private sector.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 기업에 있어서 4차 산업혁명 관련 기술의 도입이 총요소생산성에 미치는 영향을 생산성의 절대적 수준과 상대적 위치의 관점에서 실증적으로 분석하는 것을 목표로 한다. 2016~2019년 조사된 기업활동조사 데이터를 바탕으로 4차 산업혁명 관련 기술의 도입 여부 및 기업 특성 변수를 종합하여 2016년 총요소생산성을 5분위로 나누어 분위별 최소자승법 회귀분석을 수행하고, 2019년 총요소생산성 역시 5분위로 나누어 해당 분위에 포함될 확률에 대한 로지스틱 회귀분석을 시행하였다. 분석 결과 4차 산업혁명 관련 기술의 도입은 기존의 생산성이 상대적으로 낮은 기업에 대해서 절대적인 생산성 수준의 향상에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 생산성의 상대적 위치와 관련하여 4차 산업혁명 관련 기술의 도입은 기술 도입 이후 기업이 생산성 하위 20%에 속하게 되는 확률을 줄이고, 생산성 상위 20%에 포함될 확률은 높이는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 4차 산업혁명의 기업 생산성 영향을 절대적 수준과 상대적 위치로 나누어 분석하였다는 의의가 있으며, 이를 통해 기업의 이전 생산성 등 기업 특성을 고려한 4차 산업혁명 관련 기술 도입의 경영적 판단 및 4차 산업혁명 확산과 관련한 정책적 고려가 필요함을 시사점으로 제시할 수 있다.
