In this study, the sources of Kim, Soo-young's poems have been contemplated and the attention is given to the fact that he had placed substantial efforts to internalize the western literature through his active translation works and readings. The translation works of Kim, Soo-young was a passage to directly absorb the nutrition of the western literature while he was establishing his own view on literature and his reading experiment on the basis of his English skill brought significant influence for him.
The translation works of Kim, Soo-young on the poems of England and the US were on the poems of three poets listed on the Collection of Poems of Post World War(世界戰後問題詩集), and the poets listed on this Collection had the tendency of writing the confession-like poems. Among them, E. Bishop displayed the alternation of sorrow and ecstasy in confessional voice with the reminiscence of her poor younger days in her poetry. However, the gaze on himself contained in such confession implicated of self-contemplation. Lowell who had the exchanges with Bishop conspicuously had his share of confessional statement in his 〈Memories of West Street and Lepke〉. In this poem, it has the characteristics in expanding the gaze on himself into the contemplation on society. Another characteristic of these two poets was that they had strong depiction of concrete situational expression or vivid description on living. In particular, the description that led the ordinary object or situation in living into the shocking enlightenment awakens the new aesthetical experiment and this type of method brings significant waves to the poets of later time.
In the poems of Kim, Soo-young, the confession-like statement and concrete expression of living are shown conspicuously. In 〈Petal(꽃잎) 3〉, it displays the experience of having the reverse roles of a servant girl and my position. It depicts the new enlightenment on reality, namely, the subject referred to 'people' that was known as vulnerable and ignorant being had gone through the process of knowing that it was the subject to move the reality and history. In addition, the confessional voice that forms in 〈Out of Ancient Palace on a Day(어느 날 고궁을 지나며)〉 is transcend to the acute self-reflection while it has the role to complain the unjust and evil society in its paradoxical way.
Works of Ginsberg also has the tendency of confession as in the poems of Bishop or Lowell. He was very sensitive to the internal situation of the US in 1950s when it was deleted from wars, and struggled against the machinery civilization and material civilization while trying to protect the humanity. In his poems, 〈Howl〉 and 〈America〉, he had the outraging contents to appeal the issues of desperate reality, and he brought in the slangs and vulgar language into the poem to undertake the full-scale denial on sickened reality with annihilation and ridicule. In particular, the his emphasis on freedom of press is much similar to the case of Kim, Soo-young.
In his poems, there are works from the fever of 4ㆍ19 revolution with 〈Go, Please Go(가다오 나가다오)〉 and 〈Remove the Damn Photo to Use for Wiping Away(그놈의 사진을 떼어서 밑씻개로 하자)〉. He used the dialogs to emphasize in commanding language on the negative subjects or instigating to do away with the negative subjects in conformation with the relationship with Ginsberg. Obviously, these two poems emphasized the external accusation, rather than internal struggle, that differentiates from the poems of Ginsberg, however, they shared the methods to deepen the implication by fast progress and repetition in phrases. In addition, the ridicules and vulgar language shown in the poems of Ginsberg were done in ritual formality to contribute in strengthening the implication for overturning the sickened reality. The accusation statement in the poems of Kim, Soo-young reached in the pinacle of poetic denial, however, it acquired the positive level in the world of denial that it leads to the endless search on
