Since the two concepts of ``a priori`` and ``transcendental`` are very important in the correct understanding of Kant`s philosophy, how we mark these two concepts in Korean directly mirrors how we understand Kant`s philosophy in Korean. With this in mind, I will seek the correct understanding of these two concepts by referring to the examples of them and suggest the most suitable expression of them in Korean. First of all, the concept of ``a priori`` should be considered in the relation to the concept of ``a posteriori``, because these two concepts make a contrary pair. In Kant`s philosophical text, the former concept is described as follows: “absolutely independent of the all experiences”, “before the all actual perceptions”, “before the all perceptions about the object”, “independent of the all sensations” and so on. In contrast, the latter concept implies that “grounded on the experience”, “received by the experience”, or more simply, “empirical”. From this, we can easily deduce that the distinction between these two ``a priori`` (semantically it means ``before X``) / ``a posteriori`` (semantically it means ``after X``) concepts is based on the experience, and on each two concept`s full meaning showing, ultimately, the former means ``before experience``, and the latter means ``after experience``. More specifically, it is desirable that the concept of ``a priori`` is translated as ``seonheomjeok`` in Korean, and that the concept of ``a posteriori`` is translated as ``huheomjeok`` in Korean. It is even more difficult to understand the concept of ``transcendental`` that embodies the quintessence of Kant`s philosophy, because it includes a wide variety of examples. Nonetheless, the examples of the concept of ``transcendental`` can be roughly grouped into three parts. Also, considering that both the two concepts of ``transcendent`` and ``transcendental`` are derived from the one concept of ``transcendere``, it is more desirable that the former concept is translated as ``choheomjeok`` in Korean, and that the latter concept is translated as ``choweoljeok`` in Korean. With this in mind, let me clarify the three grouped examples of ``transcendental`` a little more. (1) In the cases of ``transcendental ideal`` and ``transcendental thing``, the two concepts, ``transcendental`` and ``transcendent`` are reciprocal. In other words, the former`s meaning is identical to the latter`s meaning in these cases. (2) There is almost no difference between the two concepts of ``transcendental`` and ``transcendent`` when we talk about the transcendental ideality of the representations of time and space. (3) However, as Kant himself determined earlier, and as most Kant scholars believe, the meaning of ``transcendental`` in Kant`s theoretical philosophy - more specifically, in Kant`s ``transcendental philosophy`` - is not only well distinct from the meaning of ``transcendent`` but also differentiated from the meaning of ``transcendental`` in Scholasticism. In addition, since Kant`s era, most philosophers have shown a tendency to follow the concrete meaning of ``transcendental`` in Kant`s text. The word ``transcendental`` […] does not signify something that surpasses all experience, but something that indeed precedes experience (a priori), but that, all the same, is destined to nothing more than solely to make cognition from experience possible. (See Prol: AA Ⅳ, 373 Note) This understanding of ‘transcendental philosophy’ by Kant (it implies that the sense of being is determined by the self-activity of transcendental consciousness) is no more than the outcome of the Copernican turning on ‘the old transcendental philosophy`` by the predecessors of Kant. In other words, Kant attempts to nullify the old transcendental philosophy by using the very same term of transcendental philosophy, but at the same time, by inspiring a new idea into it. More specifically, Kant shows that the object is not an undetermined existence beyond our own perceptions and sensations but something objective determined by our own self-activity as the subject. Because of a wide variety of examples of ``transcendental``, some people might argue that the concept of ``transcendental`` should be translated as ``choweoljeok`` or ``choheomjeok`` or ``choweolonjeok`` (especially, in the cases of the ``Aesthetics`` and the ``Logics``) as the case may be. But if taking this view, we land us a terrible burden to disperse the important predicates in Kant`s theoretical philosophy. In this regard, I believe that translating the concept of ``transcendental`` as ``choweoljeok`` in Korean is more desirable, because, by doing so, we can avoid the error of the problem of unfixed translated concepts. In addition, considering the language familiarity between ``choweol`` (transcendence), ``choweolhada`` (transcend), and ``choweoljeok`` (transcendental), I believe that ``choweoljeok`` is the most appropriate candidate for the translation of the concept of ``transcendental``. In conclusion, I suggest to translate the word ``transcendental`` into ``choweoljeok`` uniformly, and to emphasize that the concept of ``transcendental``, at the same time, can be also considered as ``choheomjeok`` or ``choweolonjeok`` in Kant`s text.
