정치경제학적 관점으로 본 (냉전)첩보영화와 그것의 재전유로서의 재일조선인 여성영화 - 남북한영화 속 일본 표상과 금선희 감독 영화 속 인터-아시아적 궤적을 중심으로 - = (Cold War) espionage films from a political economic perspective and Zainichi Korean woman’s films as their re-appropriation - Focusing on representations on Japan in North and South Korean Films and Inter-Asian Trajectories in Director, Soni, Kum’s films -

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

First, this paper aims to see how (Cold War) Asia-mainly Japan-was represented through comparative analysis of South and North Korean spy films from a political economic perspective that has not been analyzed much in the past, beyond ideological approach. It is symptomatic that in the South Korean spy film, Expo 70 Tokyo Operation (Choi In-hyun, 1970), Tokyo is represented as a city of economic prosperity and in North Korean spy film, A Plum Blossom Fell (1970), Japan as a corrupt capitalist country that is the pawn of the United States, and North Korea as an ideal country that has achieved an independent economic prosperity. In other words, combined with “authoritarian governmentality” that emphasizes “economic development” within the framework of political economy as Michell Dean said, during the Cold War, the perception of Asia (Japan) in South Korean spy film has pro-Japanese tendencies based on liberalism and that in North Korean spy film has Anti-Japanese tendencies based on anti-imperialism. Second, through the contemporary spy films Steel Rain (2017) and The Espionage Operations (2018), which emphasize the necessity of the previously forbidden economic exchanges between divided ethnic groups during the Cold War period, I’d like to show that “political economy made up of Cold War Asian Blocs” was transformed into “ethnic political economy.” By reading this transition into the framework of the ‘overcoming division of the system’ and ‘the theory of a complex state’ that Baek Nak-cheong and Baek Young-seo spoke of, I look at the post-colonial thinking. However, it is problematic that the above-mentioned spy films prioritize the approach of male-oriented nationalism. In particular, while contemporary films clearly focus on post-colonial thinking, at the same time they completely exclude the idea of Inter-Asia, which shows solidarity and communication between Asia. Therefore, in the last part of this paper, I try to overcome the limitations of these male-centered pro-Japanese/anti-Japanese Cold War propaganda and anti-Japanese nationalism in the popular genre through the documentary films Foreign Sky and Beast of Me by Soni, Kum, a female Zainichi Korean director. In other words, Soni Kum's films will be a good example of possibiity of communication with Asia (Japan) and ethical attitudes toward gender issues.
