Sinsanseowon was founded in 1588(Seonjo 21) on the basis of the academic and blood ties of the series “Jo Sik, Shin Gye-seong→Jeong In-hong,” and based on Sanhaejeong in Gimhae, a middle-aged scholar’s school, as its mother. It was burnt down during the Japanese Invasion of Imjin, but was rebuilt in 1609(Gwanghaegun 1), and in that year, along with Deokcheonseowon in Sancheong and Yongamseowon in Samga (Hapcheon), it became a major base seowon of the Nammyung School in Gangwoo, Yeongnam. In 1616(Gwanghaegun 8), while heading to Shin Gye-seong, the number of alumni reached about 70, and it developed into a large seowon with influence not only in Gimhae but also throughout the country. However, in 1623(Injo 1), Jeong In-hong died due to Injo rebellion and the Bugin regime collapsed, it was changed from Bugin-affiliated seowon to Namin-affiliated seowon. The early teaching spirit of Shinsan Seowon was inheriting the flow of realizing the educational goals and educational ideals of the ancient Hyanghak system that led to Yi Hwang's Yeokdongseowon and Yi Yi's Eunbyeongjeongsa. In the early 1620s, Lee Myung-ho, who was the director of Shinsanseowon, actively adopted the contents of Lee Yi's "Eunbyeongjeongsahakkyu" and "Eunbyeongjeongsa's Promise" and set the Shinsanseowonhakgyu reflecting the moral spirit of Jo Sik, who practiced as a forestry practitioner. That is “Shinsanseowonipgyu”. However, as Jeong In-hong, the party who instituted such a school rule, and his disciples stood at the center of political power as Bugin and fell, the Sinsanseowon disappeared from the forefront of history without actually realizing the purpose of the school rule in reality. Around the 1660s, only the descendants of Geumhaeheossi Heo Gyeong-Yun, who took the lead in the reconstruction after the Japanese Invasion of Korea, were in a state of emptiness to protect the seowon as owners. Around the 1690s, Gwangjuanssi Ahn Shin-hyeon, along with Changnyeongjossi[Nampyeongjossi] Jo Gu-ryeong and Jo I-chu, lectured on the book of Jo Sik at Shinsanseowon, followed by Jo Gu-ryung as the director for six or seven years after 1690(Sukjong 16). As a result of teaching while residing in the seowon as a teacher, the teaching function of Shinsanseowon was revived. As a disciple of Lee Hyeon-il, Jo Gu-ryeong preached the similarities and words and actions of Jo Si-sik together with Yi Hwang's "Seonghaksikdo", and the Shinsanseowon was transformed into a seowon with a scholarly style in which Jo Sik's studies and Yi Hwang's studies were uniformly combined. It is estimated that around this time, the runner's "Baengnokdonggyu" and Lee Hwang's "Isanwongyu" were published in the seowon instead of "Shinsanseowonipgyu." After that, the seowon was in a state of emptiness again. From 1780Jeongjo 4), Yu Munryong from Sancheong resided as the principal for 10 years from 1785(Jeongjo 9) and gave lectures. It was revived as a vow with a combined academic tradition. In 1866(Gojong 3), Heo Jeon took over as the director and had an opportunity to develop into a seowon in which the experiential and practical orientation of the Nammyung School and the speculative and theoretical studies of the Toegye School were harmoniously integrated. The ensuing ruins made lectures difficult any longer. However, even after the seowon was demolished, "Gyeokchiseongjeongga" ("Daehakpaljoga"), which is said to have passed on the ceremonies of inquisition to Jeong In-hong, and the first seven words and verse poems attached to it in Korean Until now, he was still deeply remembered by scholars of Gimhae region as his academic achievements. Also, the spirit of Shinsan Seowon was deeply remembered by scholars from Gimhae region. That spirit could not be continued in Gimhae due to the destruction of the seowon, but it was fully realized later in the Jaam Seodang in Miryang.
