교회 교육구조 진단 및 분석에 관한 연구 : 대한예수교 장로회(합동, 통합) 교단을 중심으로 = An Analysis of Church Educational Structure of Korean Presbyterian Denominations (Hap-Tong and Tong-Hap)

Since the first Korean Sunday School has began in 1886, the amazing growth has never stopped until 1995. During the last one decade, the never ending growth decreased drastically. Many church leaders consider this situation, "the crisis of Korean Sunday School". What would be reasons for drastic decrease in Korean Sunday School enrollment?
The purpose of this study is to analyze the Korean church school structure for solving "the crisis of Korean Sunday School" and suggesting possible renovations for church education. In order to analyze current Korean church structure, three factors were surveyed. First, the current churches' statistics; the trends of growth and loss, the potential of the local community, and the spiritual results of the Sunday school were surveyed. Secondly, the educational administration structure; management, organization and leadership were investigated. Thirdly, the educational plans; helping Sunday school members, unlisted church members, unsaved persons in local community, and unaffiliated members, persons of other denominations not involved in the life and work of any church, and helping people with special needs (handicapped, sick, blind, etc) were surveyed. Finally the educational leader's self-evaluation were analyzed. Leader's evaluation was recorded by interview with structured questions regarding Call and Commitment, Effectiveness, Personal Growth, and Training.
The samples were 29 presbyterian churches located in Seoul and Kyunggido area. Five Mega churches(larger that 10,000 members), eight medium churches(larger than 1,000 members), and 16 small churches(less than 1,000members) were classified and compared. The methods were the survey with the questionnaire and structured interview with four major questions for educational leaders. The percentile statistics and content analysis were used for analyzing data.
Results were discussed as follows: there were close correlations between the growth and loss of church membership and educational structure, educational programs, and educational administration The strong awareness of calling and passion for the educational ministry of the educational teacher were the important factor for church growth and maturity. Three suggestions for renovating church educational structure were discussed Professionalization for church educational administration, professionalization for church educational leaders, and developing church educational program for enlarging faith community with local community where a church locates.
