This study evaluated the language expressions between Korea and Japan from a linguistic and cultural perspective by comparing and analyzing the trends of adjacency pairs and sequence organization in conversations with men and women in remake dramas in Korea and Japan. The results are summarized as follows.
1) Korea used more diverse adjacency pairs than Japan, while Japan formed a sequence of adjacency pairs by exchanging opinions with the other party. "Greeting/Response" was an adjacency pair that did not appear in Korean but appeared in Japanese. On the other hand, "Call/Response", "Dissatisfaction/Response", and "Topic Shift/Response" did not appear in Japanese adjacency pairs but appeared in Korean adjacency pairs.
2) In the response format, Korean wives were more likely to respond in a way that damaged their husbands' reputations than Japanese wives. It was found that Korean wives damaged their husbands' reputations or expressed dissatisfaction by directly revealing the family situation of their husbands, whereas Japanese wives avoided responses that would cause friction with their husbands or damage their husbands' reputations and minimized responses to maintain their marital relationship.
3)The Pre-sequence showed that the Japanese continued the sequence while exchanging sequences with the other party to move to the sequence of the main base than the Korean. Both Korean and Japanese expanded the sequence by inserting another adjacency pair between the base adjacency pairs. It was found that post-sequence expanded conversations by continuing them instead of ending them in both Korean and Japanese. Korean women were more active in expressing a good feeling with men than Japanese women, while Japanese men more tended to respond in consideration of women's questions more than Korean men.
