한국어교육을 위한 시 텍스트 선정 기준 연구 = A Study on the Selection Criteria of Poetry Text for Korean Language Education

The purpose of this study is to examine the significance of poetry education as literature education for Korean language education and to establish standards for selecting poetry texts that can be used in the field of Korean language education.
The basic and essential goal of foreign language education is to improve the learner's communication skills through the target language. Communication skills in the true sense include an understanding of culture and literature, as well as language skills and task-solving skills.
Literary education using poetry has value and significance in many ways. Through literature education using poetry, learners can experience excellent poetic expression and understand the emotions of Korean people. In addition, learners can indirectly learn about the circumstances of the era, aspects of society, and historical events in which poems were created, Learner-centered teaching and learning activities are naturally carried out through the process of learners understanding the meaning of poetic language on their own and deriving the content and theme of the poem. In general, poetry is not large in volume, so it can be provided to learners in its original text, and there is no problem using it in classrooms where time is limited.
As the demand and necessity for poetry education increases in the field of Korean language education, the issue of selecting poetry texts has emerged as an important task. Because there are many educational elements to consider, it is difficult to realistically establish absolute poetry text selection standards that can be applied to all teaching and learning activities. However, if standards and methods for selecting poetry texts for literature education are not established, it is difficult to present a list of texts for poetry education.
For this purpose, I compiled a list of modern poetry texts included in middle school Korean language textbooks and university Korean language textbooks to which the current ‘2015 revised Korean language curriculum’ was applied and looked at the list of each poetry text. This is because, considering the realistic limitation that not all Korean poetry can be used as an educational subject, it is necessary to select educational texts from poetic texts that are recognized in literary history and certified educationally. Through this process, it was confirmed that 77 poems were included in the middle school Korean language textbook, 50 poems in the high school Korean language textbook, 123 poems in the literature textbook, and 51 poems in the university Korean language textbook. Considering duplicates, a total of 252 pieces were included.
In order to establish standards for selecting poetry texts for Korean language education, I reviewed the criteria for selecting poetry texts, focusing on ‘ International Standard Korean Language Curriculum’ and ‘Standard Korean Language Curriculum’. These two curricula and existing research studies were divided into reading education, cultural education, and literature education, and base on this, the criteria for selecting poetry texts for Korean language education were analyzed. Through this, criteria for selecting poetry texts for Korean language education were proposed. In other words, the criteria for selecting poetry texts for Korean language education were established focusing on the curriculum and learning goals as process variables, quality of work, expression, grammar, and content as text variables, and characteristic and interest as a learner variable.
Lastly, the process of applying the criteria for selecting poetry texts for Korean language education to actual poetry texts was presented in detail. Based on the current status of poetic texts, the works were analyzed in accordance with the criteria for selecting poetic texts for Korean language education presented in this study, focusing on representative works of major poets with a large number of volumes.
Considering the value and significance of poetry education for Korean language education, this study is meaningful in that it presents criteria and methods for selecting poetry texts that have been relatively under-researched. The task of selecting poetry texts for teaching from all of Korea's poetry is very inefficient and is not realistically possible. A comprehensive list of poetic texts that have been recognized and verified from a literary and educational perspective by expert groups, such as poems included in middle school Korean language textbooks and university Korean language education textbooks, is a useful reference material when conducting future research related to this field. Poetry education for Korean language education will expand its value and significance when efforts are made to establish more rational and realistic poetry text selection criteria.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 한국어교육을 위한 문학 교육으로서 시 교육의 의의를 살피고, 실제 한국어교육 현장에서 활용할 수 있는 시 텍스트 선정 기준을 마련하는 데 목적이 있다.
외국어교육의 기본적인 목표이자 본질적인 목표는 목표어를 통하여 학습자의 의사소통 능력을 신장시키는 데 있다. 진정한 의미의 의사소통 능력에는 언어기능과 과제해결력에 더하여 문화와 문학에 대한 이해력도 포함된다.
시를 활용한 문학 교육은 여러 면에서 가치와 의의를 지닌다. 시를 활용한 문학 교육을 통해 학습자는 탁월한 시적 표현을 경험하고, 한국인들의 정서를 이해할 수 있게 된다. 아울러 시가 창작된 시대 상황이나 사회 모습, 역사적 사건 등을 간접적으로 학습할 수 있다. 학습자가 스스로 시어의 의미를 파악하고, 시의 내용과 주제를 도출해 내는 과정을 통하여 자연스럽게 학습자 중심의 교수·학습활동이 이루어진다. 일반적으로 시는 분량이 많지 않기 때문에, 원문 그대로 학습자에게 제공이 가능하고, 시간이 제한된 수업 현장에서 활용하는 데 무리가 없다.
한국어교육 분야에서 시 교육에 대한 관심이 증가하면서 시 텍스트 선정 문제가 중요한 과제로 대두되었다. 교육적으로 고려해야 할 요소가 많기 때문에, 모든 교수·학습활동에 적용될 수 있는 절대적인 시 텍스트 선정 기준은 현실적으로 존재하기 어렵다. 그러나 문학 교육을 위한 시 텍스트 선정 기준을 마련하지 않는다면, 시 교육을 위한 텍스트 목록 또한 제시하기 어렵다.
이를 위하여 현 ‘2015 개정 국어과 교육과정’이 적용된 중등 국어 교과의 교과서와 대학 한국어 교재 등에 수록되어 있는 현대시 텍스트 목록을 종합하여 시 텍스트별 수록 현황을 살펴보았다. 모든 한국의 시를 교육 대상으로 삼을 수 없다는 현실적인 제약을 고려하여 문학사적으로 인정 받고, 교육적으로도 검증된 시 텍스트를 대상으로 교육용 텍스트를 선정하는 작업이 필요하기 때문이다. 이러한 과정에서 중학교 국어 교과서에 77편, 고등학교 국어 교과서에 50편, 문학 교과서에 123편, 대학교 한국어 교재에 51편, 중복 수록까지 고려하면 총 252편이 수록되어 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.
한국어교육을 위한 시 텍스트 선정 기준을 마련하기 위해서 ‘국제 통용 한국어 표준 교육과정’과 ‘한국어 표준 교육과정’을 중심으로 시 텍스트 선정 기준을 검토해 보았다. 그리고 이 두 교육과정과 기존 연구들을 읽기 교육 차원, 문화 교육 차원, 문학 교육 차원으로 구분하여 한국어교육을 위한 시 텍스트 선정 기준을 분석하였다. 이러한 과정을 거쳐 본 연구의 핵심 과제인 한국어교육을 위한 시 텍스트 선정 기준을 제언하였다. 즉 과정의 변인인 교육과정과 학습 목표, 텍스트 변인인 작품성, 표현, 문법, 내용, 학습자 변인인 특성과 흥미 등을 중심으로 한국어교육을 위한 시 텍스트 선정 기준을 정립하였다.
마지막으로 한국어교육을 위한 시 텍스트 선정 기준을 실제 시 텍스트에 적용하는 과정을 구체적으로 제시하였다. 시 텍스트 수록 현황을 바탕으로 수록된 권수가 많은 주요 시인의 대표 작품을 중심으로 본 연구에서 제시한 한국어교육을 위한 시 텍스트 선정 기준에 맞추어 작품을 분석하였다.
한국어교육을 위한 시 교육의 의의를 고려할 때, 본 연구는 상대적으로 활발하게 연구되고 있지 않은 시 텍스트 선정 기준을 제시하였다는 데 의의가 있다. 모든 한국의 시를 대상으로 교육용 시 텍스트를 선정하는 작업은 매우 비효율적이며, 현실적으로 가능하지도 않다. 중등 국어 교과의 교과서와 대학 한국어교육 교재에 수록된 시와 같이 전문가 집단으로부터 문학사적으로나 교육적으로 인정 받고 검증된 시 텍스트를 종합하여 목록으로 정리한 것은 차후 이 분야와 관련된 연구를 진행할 때 유용한 참고자료가 될 것이다. 보다 합리적이고, 현실적인 시 텍스트 선정 기준을 마련하기 위한 노력이 이어질 때, 한국어교육을 위한 시 교육은 그 가치와 의의를 확대해 갈 것이다.
