Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus capitis, Staphylococcus pasteuri, ,Micrococcus sp., Staphylococcus epidermidis, Moraxella sp., Uncultured Pseudomonadaceae, Pseudomonas, Lactobacillus plantarum이 발견되었다.

As humans are always exposed to microorganisms, there is a high possibility that the microorganisms excessively contaminate or proliferate on the skin as well as the scalp due to reasons such as the change in climate, sweat and sebum, and stress. Also, as modern people live while being constantly exposed to the polluted environment, it is easy for the harmful microorganisms to make contact with the scalp, so a custom is needed which constantly maintains the cleanness and humidity of the scalp through correct method of washing and drying.
This research investigates the condition of female students’ dandruff care and shampoo usage, and by determining the microorganisms living on the scalp, the hindrance effect of the application of essential oils of five types (clary sage, eucalyptus, cypress, geranium, lemon grass) on the growth of the scalp microorganisms will be configured, and so has been structured in total of 3 sections.
To determine the female students’ dandruff care and shampoo usage, from the 7th of June to 25th of June in 2010, research has been done on female students in Seoul, attending university as their 2nd or 4th year, and the collection of scalp microorganism and the microorganism detection and cultivation experiments were progressed in Seokyeong University skin treatment laboratory and microorganism laboratory from the 17th of June 2010 to 25th of June 2010. Also, the research
experiment on the hindrance effect of the application of essential oil to the detected microorganisms was carried out in Seokyeong University microorganism laboratory from the 25th of June 2010 to 22nd of July 2010.
The result on the investigation of the female students’ dandruff care and shampoo usage is as follows. Out of the total experiment subjects (292 people), 42.5% (124 people) were shown to have dandruffs. For the type of shampoo being used, 70.2% of the total experiment subjects were using ‘normal shampoo’. When shampooing, the place of focus in the order of percentages was ‘scalp and hair’ with 46.2%,
‘scalp’ with 45.9% and ‘hair’ with 7.9%, and for the number of the usage of conditioners, ‘always use’ showed the highest percentage with 68.5%. After shampooing, with the method of drying the hair and scalp, ‘removing moisture with towel first, and using the dryer (hot wind)’ had the highest percentage with 33.9%, followed by other drying methods of ‘removing moisture with towel first, and natural drying’ with 27.1%, ‘removing moisture with towel first, and using the dryer (both cool and hot wind) with 24.0%, ‘removing moisture with towel first, and using the dryer (cool wind) with 13.7%, and ‘others’with 1.4%.
In cases where the experiment subjects majored in beauty treatment, the subjects felt more need in dandruff care compared to the subjects not majoring in beauty treatment (x²=9.867,p<0.01), and with oily skin,‘oily scalp’ showed the highest percentage of 63.1%, and had difference in the quality of scalp on skin types(x²
=94.130,p<0.001).
Also, for skin types, dryness, sensitivity and combination had the highest percentage of ‘dry dandruff’ of 65.2%, 62.5% and 53.7% respectively ,and for oily, ‘oily dandruff’ had the highest percentage with 60.9%, so the rewere differences in the form of dandruffs with types of skin(x²=31.542,p<0.001).
When examining the types of shampoo being used distinguished by the major of the experiment subjects, beauty treatment majors had the percentage order of ‘normal shampoo’ with 59.7%, ‘hair loss shampoo’with 14.0% and ‘dandruff shampoo’ with 10.9% and had shown high in the types of shampoos, however for non beauty treatment majors,‘normal shampoo’ with 78.5% was being used the most
(x²=17.654,p<0.01).Without any relation to the presence of dandruff, both the experiment subjects with and without dandruffs used ‘normal shampoo’ and showed the highest percentage of 64.5% and 74.4% respectively, and had shown that there were differences caused by the presence of dandruff. Also, for the condition of the scalp, normal scalp had the highest ‘no dandruff’ response of 73.8%, oily scalp had ‘dandruff’response and ‘no dandruff’ response of both 50.0%, dry scalp and sensitive scalp had ‘dandruff’ response of 62.8% and 53.8%
respectively, and had shown the difference in the form of dandruff depending on the condition of the scalp (x²=24.546,p<0.001). When investigating the difference in the formation of dandruff depending on the condition of the scalp, oily scalp had the highest‘oily dandruff’ response of 56.8%, dry scalp and sensitive scalp had the highest ‘oily dandruff’ response of 77.8% and 71.4% respectively, and
had shown the difference in the form of dandruff depending on the condition of the scalp (x²=41.921,p<0.001). Dry scalp had 16.3%of‘dandruff shampoo’ usage, sensitive scalp had 23.1% of‘ hair loss shampoo’ usage, and had shown the difference in the type of shampoos depending on the type of scalps(x²=40.336,p<0.001).
The microorganisms found on scalp are as follows. Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus capitis, Staphylococcus pasteuri,, Micrococcus sp.,Staphylococcus epidermidis, Moraxella sp., Uncultured Pseudomonadaceae, Pseudomonas, and Lactobacillus plantarum have been found.
Lastly, dividing into two situations of applying blended essential oil to the detected microorganisms and only applying essential oil to the detected microorganisms, the hindrance of each microorganism growth have been monitored. By blending each of clary sage, eucalyptus, cypress and geranium in jojoba oil, they were applied to the detected microorganisms, but the hindrance effect on the growth of the microorganisms was hardly observed. However, with the undiluted
essential oil, clary sage, eucalyptus, cypress and geranium, a clear
hindrance effect on the growth of the microorganisms could be monitored.
Out of the five types of essential oils, the order o
