사물놀이 동아리 활동을 통한 인성 지도 방안

This study aimed to figure out the effects of Samulnori ―a Korean traditional genre of music which consists only of four percussions― activity on character formation by developing and applying methods of Samulnori education as a club activity.
Gugak ―Korean traditional music― education in elementary schools is very important, and it’s expected to play positive roles for the young students living in this individualizing era to form virtuous characters by co-operating in a quartet.
For ideal results, understanding in Samulnori itself and pedagogical implications of its education, Creative Experience Activities/Club Activities from Korean National Curriculum, and concepts/virtues of character education were contemplated. And it was followed by the lesson planning of a club activity of Samulnori mainly focused on Young-nam Melody.
Twenty 5th graders from H elementary school in Incheon applied for the saturday Samulnori club and its effects on character education were analyzed by observing them for 50 hours during 25 weeks and collecting surveys, postscripts, and teacher’s journals. Results are as following :
First, Samulnori club activities had positive influence on character formation. Participants realized their own personalized value as parts of the group and perceived the necessity and importance of individual roles.
Second, participants’ self-esteem was improved through the Samulnori club activities. Participants have come to develop the responsibility and self-satisfaction while practicing instruments and taking part in the talent shows and contests.
Third, affective stability and sociality of the students were brought up by the ensemble in Samulnori club activities.
Fourth, participants’ attitudes on Gugak has changed. Participants became interested in Gugak, felt pride and spirit of our traditions, and they declared to love Korean music themselves and let all the world experience it.
According to the results of this study, we suggest that the club activities of Samulnori has affirmatively affected character education like participants’ self-esteem and sociality.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 사물놀이 동아리부 학생들을 대상으로 동아리 활동 수업 지도 방안을 개발하고 이를 동아리 활동 수업에 적용하여 인성에 미치는 효과를 알아보는데 있다.
사물놀이는 국악의 여러 장르 가운데 타악기로만 이루어진 합주 음악으로 개인주의로 흘러가는 현대 사회에서 사물놀이 동아리 활동은 학생들에게 바른 인성을 길러 주는데 긍정적인 역할을 할 것이다.
연구를 위하여 사물놀이에 대한 이해와 교육적 의의, 창의적 체험활동 교육과정과 동아리 활동, 인성교육의 개념과 덕목에 대해 고찰하고 사물놀이의 여러 형태 가운데 영남가락을 중심으로 사물놀이 동아리 활동 교수학습 과정 안을 설계하였다.
연구 대상자는 인천시 소재의 H 초등학교 5학년 토요 방과 후 사물놀이 동아리부 학생 20명을 대상으로 토요 방과 후 사물놀이 동아리 활동 25주 50시간 동안 수업을 실시하고 설문지, 수업활동일지, 동아리 활동 소감문 및 교사의 수업관찰일지 등의 자료를 수집하여 사물놀이 동아리 활동 수업이 인성지도에 미친 영향에 대해 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다.
첫째, 사물놀이 동아리 활동은 인성에 긍정적인 영향을 준다. 동아리 구성원의 한 사람으로서 개인의 가치와 소중함을 깨닫고 자신의 역할에 대한 필요성과 중요성을 인식하는 과정이 인성변화에 긍정적인 영향을 준 것을 알 수 있다.
둘째, 사물놀이 동아리 활동을 통해 자아존중감이 향상 되었다. 장단을 배우고 익혀 영남가락을 연주하면서 나도 할 수 있다는 자신감이 생겼으며 발표회와 경연대회에 나가 공연을 하면서 성취감을 갖게 되어 자아존중감이 향상된 것을 알 수 있다.
셋째, 사물놀이 동아리 활동을 통해 사물악기를 직접 연주하며 정서적 안정감을 키우고 모둠 및 전체연주를 하는 동안 책임감과 협동심이 생기는 등 사회성이 향상되었음을 알 수 있다.
넷째, 사물놀이 동아리 활동을 경험한 학생들의 국악에 대한 태도가 변화하였다. 국악에 대해 관심을 갖게 되고 우리 것에 대한 자부심과 긍지를 느끼게 되었으며, 우리 음악을 사랑하고 널리 알려야겠다는 의지를 표현하였다.
이러한 연구 결과는 사물놀이 동아리 활동이 학생들의 자아존중감과 사회성 등의 인성지도에 긍정적으로 작용한다는 것을 시사한다.
