장애인을 향한 시선 전장연 지하철 시위 관련 네이버 뉴스 댓글에 대한 텍스트 마이닝 분석 = Eyes towards the Disabled Text Mining Analysis of Naver News Comments Related to the Subway Protests of the Solidarity against Disability Discrimination

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The news coverage of subway protests organized by the Solidarity Against Disability Discrimination (SADD) was marked by a proliferation of comments containing unethical and anti-human rights content. This incident exposed deeply ingrained negative emotions and attitudes towards individuals with disabilities in our society.
To investigate this matter, the study archived 622 articles from Naver News, published between March 28 and 30, 2022－a period of heightened news coverage－and analyzed 89,312 comments posted on these articles. Employing text mining techniques, the study investigated expression patterns, including frequently used words and prevalent discussion themes. The analysis revealed that ‘Lee Jun-seok’ was frequently mentioned, followed by the most common terms such as ‘the disabled’ and ‘demonstration’, surpassing even the frequency of ‘SADD’. In constant, words related to the fundamental right to mobility for disabled individuals, such as ‘mobility’ and ‘right to move,’ were relatively infrequent.
Notably, prevalent repetitive character clusters (‘ㅋㅋㅋ’ and ‘ㅉㅉㅉ’) starkly contrasted with the seriousness of the issue. Furthermore, this study identified seven primary comment topics through topic modeling: Criticism of the protests involving citizens as hostages, Aversion towards the socially disadvantaged, Criticism of the protests during rush hours, Disapproval of Lee Jun-seok’s stance, Support for Lee Jun-seok’s viewpoint, Allocation of responsibility to the Democratic Party government, Labeling of SADD as a leftist organization. Concerning these topics, comments overwhelmingly expressed negative viewpoints about the protests, with a notable prevalence of political opinions. The study also analyzed the framing of news articles, categorizing them into five different types, and examined how the distribution of comment topics shifted in relation to these frames. The analysis demonstrated that the proportions of comment topics were partially influenced by the frames of the news. Based on these findings, this study discussed society’s perception of the socially underprivileged and the media’s approach to covering protest-related news.
